Shadows of Neon
The noodle sign keeps spelling NOON. You have replaced its damaged letter twice. Caro stands below the workbench with a mug cupped between her palms and says perhaps they only serve lunch. “Then they should pay the lunch price,” you say. You are holding the new tube by its unpowered end, exactly as she taught you. The disconnected glass is cold. Through the workshop window, the old sign next door burns blue, and its light slips off the pavement toward your hand.

Chrono‑Strike
Sera has painted a blue bird inside your lunch tin. Its wings are absurdly small. The paint is dry enough to touch, though you keep your thumb away from it as if the bird might be frightened. You know that when she first showed you, last Thursday, you laughed so hard you dropped a sandwich. You know she said every courier deserved a passenger. There is a photograph of mustard on your coat. You have no memory of the laugh, the sandwich falling, or the way her face changed when you understood the joke.

The Echo Kid
The kettle screams in C minor. You know because you have spent the morning trying to sing the same note without sounding like a door in need of oil. You lift it off the little rehearsal-room stove, fill two mugs and say, “That one's hired. I'm going home.” Jules looks up from the caption display, sees the joke and points at the invoice on your music stand. The recording you finished this morning has been paid. Going home would be a defensible artistic decision. You stay.

Gravity Gauntlet
The sixth textbook bends your model bridge until the little paper rail kisses the table. “Enough,” Mara says. You lay the seventh on top anyway. For a moment the span holds, and you imagine the photograph on the school noticeboard: Kian Ro, seventeen, maker of something that worked. Then the left brace splits. The books drop through the road deck and your best piece of work becomes an embarrassing pile of borrowed mathematics.

Binary Blaze
The dragon wears your handwriting. Every scale is a note you left in a program because you thought the next maintainer might appreciate knowing why the ugly part existed. Now the notes have teeth.

Phantom Pact
Iven keeps correcting the way you hold a chisel. After three weeks of being instructed by a dead man, you set it down and ask whether he was this irritating when alive. “My wife considered it a professional distinction,” he says. It is the first thing he has told you about her.

Solar Surge
Coach Demi has kept the stopwatch from your first losing race. She claims it reminds her how far you have come. You suspect she enjoys evidence that you once ignored instructions even more spectacularly than now.

Viral Vanguard
The paper cut closes before the blood reaches your homework. For one pleased second you imagine never asking for a plaster again. Then Tomas grabs your hand to see, and the small scrape on his elbow closes too.

The Mirror Knight
Mira left a note in the armor’s cuff: Please do not wear this to avoid difficult conversations. Two years after her death, you find it while preparing to do exactly that.

Quantum Pulse
Mei has written DO NOT IMPROVISE on your wrist coupler in the same careful hand she uses for birthday cards. You used to find that funny. Then a calibration pulse put her favorite mug in a locked display cabinet, and you had to ask the museum to open it.

The Librarian
Your father still knows which shelf complains before you step on it. “Third bay,” Pavel says, without looking up from his large-print crossword. “That creak has been asking for a repair since you were nine.” You tell him the repair request is now old enough to have its own pension.

Eclipse Enforcer
In October, the Sun wore a ring above the observing ship. You remember the scientists correcting a passenger who called it total darkness: the October twenty-fifth eclipse was annular, a finite passage of the Moon, not an invitation for night to stay. Then the experimental Prism recorder fused its sealed core to the suit you were inspecting.
