The empty place in the stone
Namar has stopped in the middle of carving his own name into the city stair. You gave him permission to practice there because the first attempt on your workshop wall was too large. His unfinished final letter waits beneath a hand weighing more than your roof. On the landing above it, a child has put a toy cart against his motionless foot to keep it from rolling away.
